Apologies for my lack of posting over the past week or so – it’s been quite a whirlwind as I had a huge concert to attend and then a trip to enjoy. But no fear, I’m back with a vengeance now, and ready to challenge you once again.My challenge for you today is designed to get you out of your comfort zone. We all have one, of course, and it’s typical for us to stay in that zone and not approach anything that pushes out of it. Well……… get ready to push, because we’re going to start today.
I want you to think about a typical day for you, particularly the smallest things. Is there some point in your day where you can identify some kind of a routine that you follow? It might be the way in which you get dressed, the place you park for work, how you cross the streets, or something else.
For instance: I take the bus to work, and then I cross three blocks to reach my actual work building – and get this, I always cross those streets in the same direction and the same order, when in reality there’s a few ways I could do it.
It’s a small thing and you might be thinking – what? – but today, I decided to shake it up and cross a different way. Instead of starting off by crossing the block to the left, I crossed straight first. Then I crossed left and left again. It was a small but refreshing thing to bring just a bit of change to my daily routine.
After you’ve done it, think about it. Did it make you uncomfortable? Maybe it was actually easier than the way you’ve been doing things this whole time, or maybe it was more work. Either way, it took you out of your comfort zone, if only for a minute or two, and brought a bit of new spice to your everyday life.
