Potential (adj.); capable of being or becoming

Sometimes, life gets so wound up, so busy, so crazy, that it’s easy to forget just how amazing it is. How truly wondrous life can be, and how amazing it is that we ARE living, breathing, moving creatures and that life has so much potential. It’s so easy to get caught up in everything that we forget just how much potential life carries every single day.

This is something that really hit me the other day, when I got the opportunity to do something I never, not even in my wildest dreams, thought I would be able to do. Circumstances lined up, and I was able to attend a Stanley Cup party. (For those who don’t know, I’m a huge hockey fan, so this was a very big deal for me!) After that, it really got me thinking about the possibilities of things in the future, how much potential life carries and how really… ANYTHING can happen.

Being the type of person I am, of course I was able to recognize that this could be a really amazing recognition, but it could also be a scary one. After all, if life holds so much potential, who’s to say all that potential is for good things? Of course life has the potential to come crumbling down around us; of course there’s the possibility that everything could go wrong and things could go on a downward spiral and gosh, I hope that never happens but you have to realize it’s possible. But that’s not how I want to think, and it’s not how I want you to think, either.

You don’t know what the future holds. You cannot say for certain where you’ll be in any time. I mean, I can say “Oh, in three hours, I’ll be at work.” But do I know that for sure? Nope. What if there was a fire, or a car accident, or traffic got backed up, or something else happened? What if I won the lottery and never had to work again? On a similar note, you can’t know what will happen for sure in a week, three months, six years, or any span of time, not really. You can guess and estimate and think, but it can never be certain.

Life honestly has the potential to be anything. ANYTHING can happen. Even your craziest dream could come true, or something amazing that you never even dreamed about. You can go anywhere, do anything, and be whoever you want to be, because life has that potential to offer you. Embrace that the future is uncertain, because it will always be that way. Instead of letting it scare you, let it move you, let it inspire you, and let it give you the push you may need to keep going.
