Continuing my whole “let’s try new things” life, I signed up for my first POUND Fit class last week.
For those who don’t know what POUND Fit is, let me explain. According to their ~official website,~ POUND is “the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums.”
For the class – mine lasted an hour – you use Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks specifically engineered for exercising. It “combines cardio, conditioning & strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements.”
Prior to my class, I did watch a few videos online, and I knew that I was in for a good workout.
Sure enough, a good, sweat-dripping workout is exactly what I got. I also got enough back pain to last me two days, so yay, that was fun! (Not. Not at all.)
The class itself was interesting, and I hope y’all won’t let my resulting back pain turn you off. I took my class at Studio Sophia – the same place I went for yoga – and actually ended up being the only one in the class!! I was shocked and a little scared, because, hello, it’s a little intimidating.
But as it turns out, this was great. It basically meant I got a personal, one-on-one POUND class, which was especially great for my first time. The instructor was able to slow things down for me, switch up the class once I told her my back was hurting, and take it step-by-step to show me each move.
We started with about a half-hour of moves on our feet, which were the ones that ended up hurting my back. Up, and down, and up, and down = ouch. Then we moved into more of the sitting/laying down positions, which were much easier on my back. And all of them made me sweat, one way or the other. (Also, I am not coordinated enough for some of those moves, especially the jumping!) We then spent the last 10-15 minutes of class stretching.
So – will I do POUND again? Maybe. Maybe not. But either way, at least I can say I tried!
Following that, I decided to take it light for a few days to let myself recover, so I just did a few walks on Friday & Saturday. Keep things loose but still get in some exercise!
Friday evening, I did a walk around Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park, only about a 10-minute walk from my apartment. It was such a beautiful evening & a great way to kick off the weekend! There’s a nice path that goes around the lake. The sun was shining and there were so many people out – from those running or walking the path alongside me, to people doing yoga, kids playing with frisbees, people sunbathing or reading, etc. It’s so nice to get some exercise in and also get a chance to people-watch at the same time.
And look, here’s a selfie of me by the lake.
Saturday morning, I then did a walk of the loop in Delaware Park. Another beautiful, sunny day! I also love this loop because it hooks up with the Buffalo Zoo on one side and you can actually see the bison right there.
With the weather finally (hopefully) getting nicer here in Buffalo, it’s wonderful to be able to take some time and get outside and enjoy NATURE! I highly recommend y’all do it as well if you have the time. And if you don’t have the time, well… try and make it!
