17 Motivational Quotes To Kick Off Your Week

Ah, Mondays. The glory of a new week. Mondays can definitely be rough — but look at it this way. It’s the start of a new week! Whatever happened last week doesn’t matter; it’s in the past. You have  the opportunity of a fresh start. Anything can happen this week. Take it one day at a time. You’ve got this.

I’m a sucker for inspirational/motivational quotes, so I wanted to kick off this week by pulling out some of my favorites for you guys. What’s your favorite?

  • “There is strength inside you that you have yet to discover.”
  • “Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.” – The Wall Street Journal
  • “The world only exists in your eyes. You can make it as big or as small as you want.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • “You are enough. You are so enough, it’s amazing how enough you are.”
  • “If nothing else, one day you can look someone straight in the eyes and say
‘But I lived through it. And it made me who I am today.’ ” – Iain Thomas, I Wrote This For You

On…. Trying Something New

Alright, here’s the question of the day: When was the last time you tried something new?

Seriously. Think about it, and give yourself an answer. Maybe you’re one of those happy-go-lucky people who has no problem trying new things and is even excited at the prospect. Or maybe you’re one of those people who’s stuck in his/her ways and prefers to stick to what you know. Either way, the choice is yours – but why not try something new every once in a while?

Let’s take me, for instance. I’m not huge at trying new foods. My thought is: I’m not going to pay $15+ for an entree at a restaurant if there’s a chance I might absolutely hate it. The time for trying new things at a restaurant is when you have the chance to sneak a little off a friends’ plate.

On trying new experiences – and new things in general – I really am trying to open my mind and go for it! Sure, things could not end great, but at the same time, who knows what could happen? Trying something new could be the best thing you do for yourself today, this week, this month. So do it!

I tried something new this past weekend in going to my first live racing event out at the Holland Speedway in Holland, NY. I’ve never really watched any sort of racing on television so this really truly was my first experience in that world. I didn’t know if I was going to enjoy myself, or think it was a total bore — but I tried it anyways!

In the end, I thought it was pretty interesting. Even if it’s not my cup of tea (I may need to check it out a bit more to really get a feel for it and decide on my thoughts), I’m glad I went. And who knows? Maybe I’ll go more next summer (the local racing season is pretty much over now) and maybe I’ll really start to enjoy it more and more.

As moms always say — You’ll never know until you  try.

Education Is The Remedy

public-interest-public-awareness-ads-45-1I’ll admit: for much of the past 25+ years that I’ve been on this planet, I haven’t always been the most conscious or passionate about social or political issues. And a large part of that was sheer lack of awareness, or lack of education.

It’s really only been lately that I’ve been diving more into the social & political world and becoming more energetic about and fueled about some of these related issues, from the issue of equal pay to the uproars about Planned Parenthood funding, from talk about issues involved non-cis-het people (a phrase which I had absolutely no idea what it was about a few years ago!) to feminism, racism, sexism, and the like.

I never spoke about these issues, even if some of them were in the back of my mind. But lately, all that’s changed, and a huge part of it is due to education on my part. I’ve become more educated about these issues, and with proper education, it’s helped open my eyes and make me more concerned about some of these things.

And a lot of the time, I do see people pop up on my Twitter feed or Facebook feed who have completely different viewpoints from myself. Some of them are clearly very religious-based and those people are absolutely entitled to their opinions, so long as they are not causing physical harm to others. But few things frustrate me more than seeing some of these viewpoints that are based in absolute bigotry, in false facts or just in sheer disrespect for other human beings.

On Trying New Things…..

At some point, I realized something: I’m out of shape.

Okay, quite frankly, it was the day I went to the doctor and didn’t like the number on the scale or the body-mass index number it left me with. And yes, I know, that number does not define me, but I know I’m not in the healthiest shape, I don’t exercise nearly as much as I probably should, and I don’t eat as healthy as I should.

So I’ve decided to try and start changing that. I know it won’t be easy. Habits are difficult to break, especially when you’re used to a certain routine, or eating certain foods, or what have you. But I want this — and so I’ve begun.
