Wedding Review: Buffalo, NY

Hello, hello, hello!

As you may have noticed – or maybe not – I got married! As a result, my name has changed & so has the URL to this blog. Thanks to the nifty WordPress, you can still visit melissakania.wordpress.com, but it’ll redirect you to my new domain: burgessmelissa.com!

Before I talk about all the wonderful experiences I had on my honeymoon trip to New England, I wanted to write up a quick post referencing some of the local (Buffalo, NY) businesses I worked with for my wedding and my after-thoughts.

My First POUND Fit Class …. and More

Continuing my whole “let’s try new things” life, I signed up for my first POUND Fit class last week.

For those who don’t know what POUND Fit is, let me explain. According to their ~official website,~ POUND is “the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums.”

For the class – mine lasted an hour – you use Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks specifically engineered for exercising. It “combines cardio, conditioning & strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements.”

Prior to my class, I did watch a few videos online, and I knew that I was in for a good workout.

On Trying New Things…..

At some point, I realized something: I’m out of shape.

Okay, quite frankly, it was the day I went to the doctor and didn’t like the number on the scale or the body-mass index number it left me with. And yes, I know, that number does not define me, but I know I’m not in the healthiest shape, I don’t exercise nearly as much as I probably should, and I don’t eat as healthy as I should.

So I’ve decided to try and start changing that. I know it won’t be easy. Habits are difficult to break, especially when you’re used to a certain routine, or eating certain foods, or what have you. But I want this — and so I’ve begun.

The Winter Wonderland in Western New York

B25FpqYIMAEf68s  Ahh, winter in the wonderful world of Western New York. Well – technically it’s still autumn, as winter doesn’t begin for another month, on December 21, but you get the idea. The snow has officially begun falling in Buffalo and the surrounding areas, temperatures have hit below freezing for long periods of time, and it feels more like winter than fall out there.

But have no fear. Even though the snowflakes are falling and temperatures dropping, there’s still plenty to do in the Buffalo area. I’ve compiled this list for those of us who are looking to shake out of that cabin fever, maybe try something new, or revisit an old adventure.

Either way, there’s no excuse for staying home throughout the winter in the 716 — plenty to do and plenty to see…. provided there’s no travel ban, that is. If that’s the case, please stay home and obey the laws, of course. But provided the streets are clear and you’ve got the green light, get out there and enjoy the winter wonderland of Western New York.
