(Apologies for these next few posts being late, ahhh. That wonderful thing called “life” got in the way…)

Day 2- Who was the last person you texted? Write a five line poem to that person.

The fun times we’ve had,

I’ll never forget.

The road trips, the games, the restaurants, all of it.

You’ve been a great friend and for once,

I look forward to the future.

30 Day Poetry Challenge: Day 2

Today, I’m beginning the 30-Day Poetry Challenge (instructions found here.) I used to absolutely love writing poetry but have fallen away from it in recent months/years; I’d like to work on picking it back up and hope that this challenge will help me get started!

Day 1- Write a poem where each line starts with a letter from your first name (an acrostic). It can be about anything, but it should not be about you or your name.

Morning breaks, the sun suddenly interrupting the horizon.

Each drop of dew on the grass shrinks, fades, falls.

Last night was the ending, this morning a new beginning

In every way, we start anew, we start anew.

Since the day breaks, the world turns upside down.

Soon, everything will change, everything will change.

A new beginning.

Reflecting Back On 2013

One thing I’d like to look back on as we approach the end of 2013 is all of the new things that I did throughout the course of the year. It should always be our goal to grow as a person, as an individual; to gain new experiences, try new things, meet new people, visit new places, etc.

It’s been my goal to do at least one new thing each month, and this is something I hope to continue in the year of 2014. Go somewhere new, try a new experience or just in some way – big or small – do something that I have never done before in my life.

Under the cut, in case anyone’s interested, is my list for 2013. (Of course, there’s still 14 days left in the year, so this list might expand!)

History Can Be a Wonderful Thing

I live in an area that is just barely outside the city limits of Buffalo, New York. For all intents & purposes, I’m a resident of the city, even if technically I’m not. I work in the heart of downtown Buffalo, I commute via bus on a daily basis and I’m always out and about venturing around the city.

My daily bus commute to work downtown involves an approximately four-mile stretch of Broadway Street, including going through a community that was once a very Polish area back in the day. Now, it’s filled with many vacant buildings, the infamous Broadway Market and a couple of businesses here and there that still manage to exist.

Yesterday, I came across a website that lists a number of historic buildings in the city of Buffalo. It includes a list of buildings that are considered “at risk,” some that have been lost and others that have been saved. It’s a pretty interesting website. You can view the listings by zip code which allows you to kind of piece things together and look at specific portions of the city, if that’s what you’re trying to do.

A number of listings I found were interesting. Some noted that the building used to be a bank many, many years ago; others noted famous stores, meeting places, etc.

But there was one listing that really caught my eye.

A Postcrossing Update

rsz_51photo Yesterday, I came home from work to find the above envelope waiting for me. My first thought: how awesome is that?!? Really. When was the last time you came home to find mail from Russia, let alone mail that’s in a Sochi 2014 Olympic envelope? Enclosed was a really neat postcard from a city in Russia called Kstovo. I know I’ve discussed Postcrossing on my blog before, but since I’ve really started to get back into, I figured it was time to revisit.
